A little old school

In this recipe for dairy-free tiramisu that was shared on the Enjoy Life Foods Instagram, I wanted to blend nostalgia with modernity. The colours are warm and slightly rusty, with an overall brown hue. I amplified the texture to highlight the three components of this recipe that come together to create one amazing dessert - creamy coconut whip, crunchy cookies, and watery espresso.

What makes this recipe modern?

It’s gluten free, dairy free, and free from other common allergens. It is also plant-based. I wanted to make this very current take on a traditional recipe feel a little old school.

a la tavola

Tiramisu is a traditional Italian dessert that I remember my Nonna making years ago. In this shot, formatted for Instagram stories, I brought the packaging together with the individual recipe components to create a scene and a mood. It makes me think of the prep setup one would do when making tiramisu; setting up your cookies, cream, and espresso to be assembled into layers. To achieve this look, I turned on a warm-hued kitchen light while shooting in natural daylight. I then amplified the colours during the editing process.

Texture, baby!

I live for a good textural shot. What more can I say?

Highlighting key moments

As a recipe developer I am very familiar with the idea of blending cold, hardened coconut cream to make a simple coconut whip. But I know that most home bakers and cooks are not aware of this incredible trick. So I decided to highlight it with a shot of the three cans of hardened coconut milk that I used to create the coconut cream layers. I then wrote a blurb about how to master this nifty party trick in the reader’s own kitchen.
